Ecuador: Kolping Colegio Sto. Domingo Receives Award for Innovation

Furthermore, two Vocational Training Courses for disabled persons in the areas of electrical engineering and computer applications were successfully conducted for the first time.  Thus the Kolping Colegio picked up a task that up to now was disregarded to a large extend in the entire region, the integration of handicapped people into the world of work.  Along with the courses for the disabled, the Colegio also offered courses for women in the area of book-keeping and languages for the first time.  There is a great demand for both of the occupational qualification measures in the in the boom region of Sto. Domingo.

The expansion of the offers of education to new occupational fields and target groups also requires higher standards of the teachers, so that the specialists also received further qualification to meet the increased assignments.  In 2008 a total of 754 persons received vocational training in the Kolping Colegio Sto. Domingo.

However, the Colegio does not limit its pedagogic efforts to students alone but also sought the contact to the parents and offered to work with the parents complementing the operations of the school.  The scope of the offers and the new grounds that were broken also brought official recognition to the Colegio and it received the Innovative Award of the region.
