Occupational health and safety

Health and safety are often not priority issues at workplaces in Colombia. The Escuela Nacional Sindical (National trade union school) in Medellin wants to reduce the number of accidents and work place related illnesses in Colombia. They offer seminars and workshops, they do research and lobbying and they promote networks on health and safety at work. Trade unions shall be motivated and qualified to take initiatives to improve the working conditions in companies in Colombia.

Training for social action

The life of trade unionists is dangerous in Colombia. There is no other country in the world with so many murdered trade unionists. For decades Colombia has been suffering from violence and social injustice. Labour activists are often threatened and dismissed. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has been critizising the harassment and oppression of trade union in Colombia for many years now.

We want to help the trade unions in Colombia to resist the threats and to strengthen them by supporting their training programs. Our partners are the two trade union centres Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) and Confederacion de Trabajadores de Colombia (CTC).

By the social care of children and adolescents, through community and district centers and by offering workshops on health care, political and cultural activities the social structures are being changed positively. It is an important goal to shape persons in such a way that they take on responsibility for themselves, their fellow men and the environment.

The Social Center Los Comuneros in Bogotá runs a Kindergarten and a school, holds workshops on various issues of human cohabitation and cares for children and adolescents also psychologically when necessary.
